More About Us

Belmont Bay Neighborhood Watch (BBNW) is sponsored by the PWC Police Department:  members complete "Community Watch” training to become familiar with how to work with our local Police Department, share our observations/concerns and report suspicious activities and incidents.  We are not an enforcement group or security service, and are not affiliated with any homeowners association, but we are eyes and ears for the community and will always be courteous to our neighbors and strangers.  We are unpaid volunteers who contribute their efforts and abilities because we love our community and cherish our neighbors.

Vision

Belmont Bay Neighborhood Watch intends to be an integral, respected and valued element of our community.  We cherish our beautiful little corner of Woodbridge and enjoy a friendly, peaceful and safe environment a little bit removed from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding area.  We are neighbors who are contributing time and effort to foster close, collaborative relationships our neighbors and organizations who share a stake in the safety, security, and friendly atmosphere in our welcoming community:  the police department, schools, merchants, clubs, homeowners associations, and others.  In addition to being an avenue for neighbors to “give back” to the community, we want to be a trusted source for information about security and safety advice and assistance and contacts.

Activities

Our primary activity is organizing a neighborhood watch car patrol.  Volunteers sign up to perform a scheduled patrol one hour a week in the evening to identify and report criminal or suspicious activity.   We wear hats, vests, have yellow strobe lights to identify ourselves and present a highly visible presence to help deter crime in our community, along with Neighborhood Watch signs we have posted in the neighborhood.

Activities

Secondary--but still important--activities include liaising with the police department to follow up on incidents reported in the neighborhood, exchanging information with other stakeholders in community safety, and raising neighborhood safety awareness and communicating security best practices and changes in the security environment.

Lastly--on occasion we plan to lead or support some limited advocacy activities with organizations on issues on which all our members agree and which have broad support in our community.
